Wing Camp at Stainton CTC – one cadet’s view

Stainton Camp from a cadet’s point of view.

The Central and East Yorkshire Wing held a Wing Camp at Stainton Cadet Training Centre between November 3rd and 5th. Here is the experience of one cadet from Wetherby Sqn who attended.

In my experience Stainton was a thoroughly enjoyable camp that offered choices of drumming, bell lyre (a xylophone type instrument held upright in a sling or horizontal harness), drill instructor, radio coms, first aid and a drum major course.

Music was run by Plt Off Waudby who is the Wing Band and Music Officer. One of the best things about this camp was the laid back attitude and amount of fun had on this camp (although, possibly not for those doing the drill instructors course). Also the fact that it was an all greens camp gave it a feel of an exciting time. As a corporal on our squadron said it was taxing, but very rewarding course also there is a lot of revision and you need to be highly motivated.
